Dr Jarrod Meerkin

Jarrod Meerkin
Jarrod is the Founder and Managing Director of Body Composition Australia.

With qualification as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a PhD in Exercise Science, he is the first health professional in Australia to provide dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) body composition scans outside the research setting.

His expertise lies in the use of dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) for bone mineral density and body composition analysis and in developing computer models of subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue of the abdomen from magnetic resonance imaging.

Jarrod has presented his research work and the work done as part of the team at Queensland University of Technology both nationally and internationally.

His work has seen a number of questions raised about body composition - what is it, what does it mean, how should it be measured and how does it influence individuals' health. The desire to provide accurate body composition measurement and information to the community saw the development of Body Composition Australia.

Jarrod has previously been the National Sports Science Coordinator for the Australian Paralympic Committee and he currently holds an executive position in the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS).
