Matt O'Neill
BSpSc, MSc(Nut&Diet), Nutritionist

Matt is founder of SmartShape.com.au, where he inspires people with tips, tools and training on weight management. He runs regular courses on nutrition and weight loss for health, fitness and wellbeing professionals and provides a range of practical resources to make their job more rewarding.

Matt's products include the NutritionPT Program Kit, Seminar Presenter's Package, Step Into Shape Challenge, the Weight Loss Coaching Workshop and numerous seminars.

Matt's passion is driven by a firm belief that nutrition and weight loss information can be easily understood when it is delivered with understanding, skill and humour.

Matt's speaking talents have resulted in over 600 media interviews and lectures in eight countries. He appears regularly on current affairs programs with expert commentary on food and fitness issues. He is formally qualified as a Certificate IV Workplace Assessor and has undergraduate degree in Exercise Science.

Matt has delivered dynamic presentations for many organisations, including:

  • Australian Fitness Network
  • Australian Institute of Fitness
  • Australian Catholic University
  • Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation
  • Centre for Health Promotion and Research
  • Children's Institute of Sports Medicine, and
  • Fitness Professionals (UK)
In 2000, he was awarded the inaugural Presenter of the Year from the Australian Fitness Network.

Matt has previously held positions as:

  • Nutritionist and Senior Policy Officer for the Australian Consumers' Association
  • Member of the NH&MRC's Overweight & Obesity Working Party
  • Sports Dietitian for the Sydney City Roosters Rugby League Club, and
  • Board Member of the Weight Management Code Council of Australia.
He currently shares his insight on the:
  • Healthy Inspirations' Scientific Advisory Board
  • Playing Healthy Foundation Board, and the
  • RMIT Consumer Science Advisory Committee.
And is the Weight Loss Coach for Men's Health Magazine (Aust.)

Although Matt has attempted to develop normal recreational hobbies, his pastimes with the exception of exercise, include website design, desktop publishing, video editing and other communication media. He integrates these skills into his work to provide exceptional education experiences.
